My poor stomach is already in knots! This is such an important game for the Kings! I'm pretty optimistic the Kings will win being that they are coming off a day of rest! Tonight our house will be full cheering for both teams - however, the majority will be for the Kings of course! My oldest Son's best friend is a Hawks fan, so there will be a lot of chatter up in there! I think I'll pull up this blog post and do a new "Sound Bytes From My Living Room" edition. It's always a hoot for me to read back reliving the game! Stay tuned and GO KINGS GO! UPDATE: Well, I decided NOT to do a new "Sound Bytes From My Living Room" because all it would contain is a lot of profanity. I hate you Blackhawks!!!!

I often think back about when I was a little girl. My fondest memories are of just me, walking around gathering flowers, watching birds, rabbits, butterflies and big fluffy bumble bees. I can still smell the Queen Anne's Lace flowers that grew wild. At one point we lived on top of a large hill. I'd sit in the grass in the summer and pick the wild clover blossoms and pluck each petal to suck out the nectar. There would be grasshoppers bouncing all around in what looked like a vast sea of grass. Sometimes a lady bug would fly by and land on my hand. I'd hold it close to my eyes to really get a look as it crawled around then fly away. I'd think about having wings and being able to fly anywhere I wanted. I'd lay down on that same grass and watch the puffy white clouds transform into shapes before my eyes. I could, and did, spend hours outside. it was such a beautiful time. “After all," Anne had said to Marilla once, "I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea In 1983, my family up and moved to California from Wisconsin. I was just in the 8th grade and very upset about leaving my friends behind. When we moved into our new home I emerged from the back seat of the car wearing a very old and worn Milwaukee Brewers hat. It was falling apart so much that the bill was being held on with safety pins. But I loved that hat. However, I didn't love it because I was a Brewers fan, I just loved the hat itself. Growing up I did attend a handful of Brewers games enjoying "Roll out the barrel" along with what every kid loves - the junk food. Not until I went to my very first Dodger Game, did I truly know what it felt like to be a fan... Yesterday, Dodgers Nation who I follow on facebook, posted this photo: I replied "Best. Moment. Ever." Yes, I agree it wasn't THE best moment ever, but reliving the moment made it so for me yesterday! LOL ~ anyway, some dude replies to my post calling me a bandwagon fan. Here's the thread: I may not have been born into the Dodger fan base like my Sons did, nor am I a California native...but no one can call me a bandwagon Dodger fan. If I didn't live 65 miles away from Dodger Stadium AND could afford season tickets, you best believe I'd be at just about every single home game there was.
Over the years I got to witness some amazing moments in Dodger Baseball, including the 1988 World Series and attending the 2008 Dodgers vs Redsox game at the Coliseum. I've watched no hitters, walk off grand slams (my favorite was Russell Martin's in he 10th inning for the come back victory - it was AWESOME because a lot of people were leaving the stadium and when the crowd cheered, you could see everyone in the parking lot stop dead in their tracks! #1 Rule - NEVER leave the game early - some of the best moments have happened!) Some of my favorite players were/are Kirk Gibson, Orel Hershiser, Mike Piazza, Eric Karros, Shawn Green (still have my son's Green jersey packed away for his kids), Eric "Game Over" Gagne (still have my son's t-shirt with the string beard packed away), Jayson Werth, JD Drew, Matt Kemp, ANDRE ETHIER ♥16♥, Adrian (aka Ernie) Gonzalez and of course Clayton Kershaw. Those are just SOME that I can think of at the top of my head lol. I don't have to prove I'm a real fan. LOL!!!! Love, a 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 Dodger Fan! As I settle into my seat up in the top section 301 of Staples Center with my double chardonnay in hand, I look around. The banners of the 2 Stanley Cup Championships hang along with the retired jerseys of some of my most beloved players. The crowd is buzzing with anticipation and it begins. Lights are dimmed and the incredible pre-game intro appears. Clips of epic goals, fights, the thrilling sound of "He shoots...he scores!!!!!!!!!!!" over and over and over where you are SO pumped up for the game, nothing else matters in the Universe. Fans start cheering as if we just won the Stanley Cup once again. I had chills all over my body. Not because the temperature inside was most likely an awesome 60 degrees, but because I finally remembered what watching live hockey felt like. I have become so used to the banter, albeit very annoying, of Jim Fox and Bob Miller. When the first puck dropped I was mesmerized by the actual sounds of the game. Hearing the puck slap against the sticks, the grunts from the huge men skating like the wind, their bodies being checked against the glass. It's pure music to my ears. In between plays, of course, is the organ music that gets the crowd engaged in the Addams Family theme song "Canucks Suck"! The one thing LA Kings fans do well - heckle the opposing team. Some call it "unsportsmanlike" but I call it passion. There are 11 games left in the regular season. The Kings need to get their groove back and start winning like the Champions they are. Tonight they play the Devils. When I get home from work it will be half way over, hopefully the Kings will be winning, and hopefully I don't have to suffer too much of the way Jim Fox finishessentencessofast. All I know is I can't wait for my next live game...hopefully in the playoffs. I started this blog a year ago. I did it out of frustration. A place to write my thoughts while being able to look back on what I wrote and reflect. I kind of dropped the ball on it as the year went on. I don't want to give up on it. I want to be that blogger who can write a post that someone may find entertaining, bring up a subject of debate or controversy, share my passion for cooking, wine and my sports teams and express my creative need to do graphics. I like that it's not really about one specific thing. It's a bunch of ramblings and postings related to the things I like (and sometimes dislike) in my life. It's just me.
With that being said, we're back in the horizon of NHL playoffs and the beginning of a new MLB season. I am very hopeful the Kings will be in the playoffs again this year, and with that comes the very probable chance to take The Cup again. It can happen! I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation. Tonight they play the Ducks. I loathe the Ducks. So much so, I bought a t-shirt that reflects just how much. I don't even care if anyone wears it - I just like to own it. That's the kind of girl I am. I am a hater and proud of it. I have gotten a lot of grief from "general sports fans" who "just love the sport, not the team". I can't help it. It rubs me the wrong freakin way. It's like me saying I am a Dodger fan, but I also like the Giants. Uh, no. (Now you'll see the second t-shirt I bought - there are so many and they are awesome www.smackapparel.com). I love my teams. Win, lose or tie, a Dodger fan & Kings fan till I die. Tonight the Kings play the Ducks...all I can say is GO KINGS GO! |
